EYELASH EXTENSIONS

Eyelash Extensions DO’s

• To maximize your time with your lash artist, come to each appointment on time with clean eyes free of makeup and oils.
• Groom your lashes as needed with a clean mascara wand, preferably when wet.
• If you plan on lash tinting or lash perming  this should be done 48 hrs prior to your lash extensions appointment.  (Tinting or perming of the lashes is not necessary since the extensions cover the natural lash and are curved to replicate curled lashes).
• Airbrush tanning should be done 24 hrs prior to your lash extensions appointment.
• Keep your Eyelash Extensions completely dry for 24 hours after each application so avoid showers, steam, swimming and sweating.  This time is necessary for the glue to properly adhere to the natural lashes.
• Let skin care service providers know about your Eyelash Extensions and use caution when using steam, acid/peels, lasers, or hydroxyl treatments.
• Use powdered, liquid or gel eyeliner.  Pencils (unless specially formulated for Eyelash Extensions) tend to leave an oily residue that can run into the extensions and loosen the bond.

Eyelash Extensions DONT’S

• Expose your extensions to excessive heat, steam, sauna or swimming
• Rub or pull on extensions or natural lashes
• Use oil based products around the eyelashes
• Use waterproof mascara or mascara meant for natural lashes – these interfere with the bond of your extensions.  One of the benefits of Eyelash Extensions is not needing mascara anyway!
• Use a mechanical eyelash curler – these destroy your extensions and can pull out your natural lashes
• Tan in a tanning bed during the first 48 hrs after application
• Touch your lashes – the oils from your fingers can break down the glue
• Worry when you lose an extension.  This is part of the natural shedding process of your natural lashes and you will have a new lash growing in right behind the old one that will be ready to fill in when you come in for your next touch up appointment!

We recommend sleeping on the Save My Face Pillow to help preserve and care for your lashes, and of course your beautiful face! Also, to protect and preserve the life of your lash extensions (especially if you are prone to oily skin/lashes), we suggest using Lash Care Longer Life Coating Sealer twice a week to seal, protect and hydrate your extensions.  This product forms a barrier against sweat, natural oils and pollution.

Don’t be fooled by places who tell you their extensions last 2 months.  Some of your extensions may last up to 2 months with proper home care, depending on where the natural lash is in it’s life cycle when the extension is attached to it.  A natural lash cycle is 60-90 days and each of your lashes are on their own individual growth cycle, so your natural lashes are constantly shedding.  Your natural lash must be at least 30 days mature to be strong enough to attach an extension to it so baby lashes are not used.  When you come in for your appointment each of your natural lashes will be at different stages of maturity so we will carefully select the lashes that are mature enough to have extensions attached to them.  Between visits, when one of your natural lashes sheds, the extension attached to that lash falls off with it.  You will have another natural lash growing in right behind it; therefore, you will need regular fills, approximately every 2-4 weeks to keep your lashes looking full and beautiful.

What Are Eyelash Extensions?

Eyelash Extensions are a popular service and product that lengthens and thickens the look of your natural eyelashes. Single strands of synthetic eyelashes are curved to replicate a natural eyelash, and are applied to each individual lash one at a time to create beautiful long and full lashes. Eyelash Extensions are perfect for special occasions or for day to day wear.

What will they look like?

When eyelash extensions are applied properly they look and feel completely natural, just much fuller and longer than your own. Check out our before and after page to see the results of actual Blink Lash Boutique clients.

Does the procedure hurt?

No. You will lie comfortably on a massage or facial table with your eyes closed. Many clients actually fall asleep during the procedure. The eyelash professional will apply an under eye gel pad to cover your lower lashes and the extensions will be applied to each individual eyelash.

How long will it take to apply Eyelash Extensions?

The application process for eyelash extensions normally takes anywhere from 1 – 1.5 hours with someone who is experienced. If you go to a newly certified professional it may take up to 3 hours.

How long do they last?

When applied and cared for properly, eyelash extensions will last the length of the natural growth cycle of your eyelashes. Some of your extensions could stay on for 2 months, although touchups are required every 2-4 weeks. Everyone’s experience will differ based on day to day activities and the strength of the natural lash.

What does it take to maintain the Eyelash Extensions?

We recommend getting a touch up every 2 -4 weeks. If you wait too long your eyelash extensions will fall out and you will require a new full set. Your natural eyelashes fall off every 45 – 60 days due to the natural growth cycle and are naturally replaced with the growth of a new eyelash. Other factors such as exposure to steam or touching your eyes a lot may shorten the life of your extensions. A touch up is needed to fill in any lashes that have fallen out. Touch ups average 30 minutes to 1 hour.

Can I wear mascara with Eyelash Extensions?

Yes, even though mascara is not really required since the extensions actually give the illusion of wearing mascara, it can be worn. It must, however, only be water based. Waterproof mascara or any type of oil based mascara can dissolve the glue and shorten the life of your extensions causing them to fall out sooner. We carry a special mascara designed for eyelash extensions which is much better for the glue, but we still recommended that it is only be applied to the ends of the lashes, not at the base where most of the glue is. You must also be very gentle when you wash off the mascara. Only use oil free eye makeup remover to wash off the mascara, as an oil based remover will cause the extensions to fall out sooner.

Can I get my Extensions wet?

Yes, 24 hours after the extensions are applied they can get wet. The glue we use is waterproof and allows you to shower, swim, exercise etc.

Can I use Eyelash Curlers with Eyelash Extensions?

No. Using mechanical eyelash curlers on your eyelash extensions will damage the extensions and possibly your own natural lashes. A special heated curler may be used to lift the base of the lashes.

How do I choose which set and what length of extensions I want?

Eyelash extensions are available in a wide range of lengths and thickness. We normally consult with the clients first to see what type of style they are interested in, however the length and thickness of your natural lashes will be a big factor in what size/type of extensions we apply. Someone with very fine and short lashes will not be able to achieve as dramatic of a look as someone with much fuller and stronger natural lashes. Our lash pros are very experienced and will be able to determine the best type of extension to apply to your lashes. No matter which set you choose the extensions will look and feel very natural.
